5 things to consider when appointing a training provider.

With the closure of 3aaa many employers are now looking at the daunting task of appointing a new training provider. With over 2500 registered training providers it can certainly seem like an impossible task! We’ve put together 5 things you should consider when you’re choosing your new training provider.

  1. Industry experience

The first point to consider is if the training provider has experience in your industry, and if so, how much? Look for long lasting partnerships with businesses similar to yours and ask for examples of other companies they’ve worked for. You also want to ask if the assessors have any industry experience in the sector they are delivering a qualification in. If the assessors can’t apply the learning to a real life scenario, you might find your Apprentices are quick to disengage and won’t graduate from your programme.

  1. Bespoke training packages

Does your training provider offer you a bespoke package, or do they have a set-in stone programme? To make apprenticeships work for you, you need to work with a provider that understands your company goals and will work to make a programme that helps you reach them. Look for a company who believes that their people become your people, a partnership and a mutual desire to reach goals is crucial!

  1. Learning methods

Different training providers have different methods of learning. Some offer classroom based, whilst others have the assessor visit solely in the workplace, look if they have an online learning platform, or if they offer webinars. It might be an idea to ask your current apprentices how they learn most effectively and make your selection accordingly.

  1. Reputation

Ask around your network for recommendations of training providers or ask any former apprentices which provider they studied with. Low quality providers soon get a bad name for themselves and you can take a lot of the work away by knowing who to approach… and who to avoid!

  1. Public data

When you’ve narrowed your list down, you can use information that is freely available to make a more informed decision. OFSTED grades, Learner and Employer satisfaction scores, companies house data, and ESFA stats such as contract allocations and qualification achievement rates are all in the public domain and will indicate if your provider offers quality learning.
