Mind
Mind, a leading mental health charity, operates in a demanding retail market where attracting and retaining skilled managers is crucial. Karen Longstaff, People Development Manager, knows the importance of nurturing talent from within. Together with learners like Nicola Winter, Shop Manager and Learning Lead, Mind needed a training partner who could deliver flexible, personalised apprenticeships to grow confident, capable leaders ready to tackle modern workforce challenges.
Mind partnered with Remit Training to deliver tailored apprenticeship programmes, including Level 3 Team Leader and Level 5 Operational Manager pathways. Each learner receives one-to-one support from a dedicated Remit development coach, who builds a strong relationship with the learner to personalise the experience and adapt training to real-life challenges. For Nicola, this support focused on practical skills such as conflict management and assertiveness — key areas to boost her confidence and impact in her role.
The impact has been transformational. Learners like Nicola have developed the skills, knowledge and self-belief to run shops more effectively and support their regions with greater confidence. Karen has seen how the close relationship between coaches and learners drives engagement, motivation and long-term growth. By working with Remit, Mind is successfully building a pipeline of skilled managers from within - strengthening leadership, boosting retention and ensuring the charity continues to thrive in a competitive sector.
I've worked with Remit now for many years in different roles in different organisations, and I believe in the way Remit do their business, how they treat people, how they personalise the learners journey and experience, and tailor it to the skills and the knowledge for that person in the job role that they aspire to have. The support from Remit is pivotal to our success and to develop the, the skill set of our managers even further.
