A Senior Production Chef apprentice will already hold a relevant level 2 qualification. With this apprenticeship they will further develop their cooking skills as a chef and will learn how to lead a team of commis chefs in a challenging commercial kitchen environment. 

They will have to learn to work efficiently and independently to produce meals for their customers and these will often be to specific standards depending on your organisation’s menus. They will have to ensure they have excellent organisation skills and develop techniques to remain calm and focused in an often hot and highly pressured environment. 

The apprentice will be supporting other team members with their development ensure they have a strong team working with them.

Assessment

The apprentice will be assessed to the apprenticeship standard using four complementary assessment methods. The assessment is synoptic, i.e. takes a view of the overall performance of the apprentice in their job. The assessment activities will be completed by the independent end point assessor as follows: on demand test, practical observation, business project and a professional discussion. 

Once each element has been completed the overall grade is determined by the independent end point assessor. This grade will be based on the combination of performance in all assessment activities.
