Employers recruiting an apprentice aged 16–18, or an eligible apprentice aged 19–24 with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan or care-experienced background, may qualify for a £1,000 employer payment. This funding is available for both new recruits and eligible existing employees beginning an apprenticeship.
Employers recruiting eligible young people aged 18–24 who have been claiming Universal Credit may be able to access the Youth Jobs Grant, worth up to £3,000. This funding helps businesses create new apprenticeship opportunities while supporting more young people into sustainable employment.
Small and medium-sized businesses that do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy could be eligible for a £2,000 hiring incentive when recruiting eligible apprentices aged 16–24. Employers offering eligible Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeships may receive up to £2,000 per apprentice. These programmes provide an excellent entry route into skilled careers while giving employers financial support to recruit and develop new talent.
Eligible non-levy employers can benefit from 100% government-funded apprenticeship training for qualifying apprentices under 25, removing the employer co-investment requirement. This helps businesses invest in new talent and upskill existing employees while keeping training costs to a minimum.
Employers do not pay Class 1 National Insurance contributions for eligible apprentices under 25 earning below the annual earnings threshold. Combined with apprenticeship funding, this can significantly reduce the overall cost of recruiting and developing skilled employees.
