As a butchery apprentice you will learn and develop an understanding of a range of meat species and the various techniques needed to process and/or produce products. In addition, you will learn to cut, prepare, package and present meat products to the standards required of the business and specialist needs of commercial and/or consumers. Butchers will have a range of skills, knowledge and behaviours that can lead to rewarding careers in the butchery industry, not only in the UK but across the world.

Entry Requirements

Typically, employers are looking for candidates with four GCSEs at level 4 and above.  Which is equivalent to a grade C and above on the old system. College graduates and university graduates are also welcomed. Functional Skills

If you do not have the required English and maths grades at GCSE level 4 when undertaking your apprenticeship, Remit can support a functional skills course. This course will ensure you have the level 4 required to undertake your endpoint assessment.

Duration

This apprenticeship will typically take 18 to 24 months to complete.

Salary

You will be earning at least the national apprenticeship minimum wage.

Qualification

This is a level 2 apprenticeship – which is equivalent to 5 GCSE passes.

Assessment

The endpoint assessment consists of 3 assessments methods:

  • A multiple-choice test
  • A Practical skills assessment
  • vocational competence discussion, supported by your workbook

Support

During the apprenticeship, the apprentice will have day to day support from their employer and have a dedicated Remit Development Coach who will visit them in their workplace to give regular 1-2-1 training and support.
