This level 3 apprenticeship programme will support the role of an apprentice Vehicle Damage Panel Technician to develop an expert working knowledge of the repair and replacement of vehicle body panels using a number of manufacturer and industry recognised techniques.

The apprenticeship journey will support apprentices to complete a range of vehicle accident repairs whilst being fully compliant with current, recognised industry standards and legislation.

From the smallest panel repairs, all the way through to structural panel removal and refitting, measurement and realignment of structural chassis systems will be covered during the length of the programme.

To support your customer service, this programme focuses on developing communications skills to form effective working relationships with colleagues and will build the confidence needed to discuss technical repairs carried out on a vehicle with the customer or work provider.


Level 3

Entry Requirements

Individual employers will set their own selection criteria for applicants. Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this prior to completing their apprenticeship. Remit’s dedicated functional skills team with work with the apprentice to ensure they reach the required level.

Programme Duration

Typically, it is expected that it will take three years for the apprentice to attain the required level of competence in the workplace although it may be sooner if an individual already has significant training and practical experience.

Number of Training blocks

12 weeks of block training will be undertaken at the Remit Academy spread across the 36-month apprenticeship.


On completion of this apprenticeship, the apprentice will be competent to work as a Qualified Panel

Technician. Following further training and development, apprentices can progress to a range of jobs such as Senior technician (ATA Assessment required), Workshop Controller, an estimator or Bodyshop Manager.


At the end of each learning year, the apprentice will have to undertake a gateway assessment. These assessments are based around the knowledge they have developed during their training in the Academy and the skills they have developed in their workplace throughout the year. The gateways are in place to ensure the learner is at the correct level for their programme and have the required knowledge and ability to be able to progress to the next level.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

The end point assessment (EPA) consists of three distinct methods:

  • Online Knowledge Test
  • Skills Test
  • Professional Discussion

Performance in the EPA will determine the apprenticeship grade of fail, pass or distinction.
