After completing her ‘A’ Levels last year, and considering her options, Abbie Nelson decided that she needed a more vocational route to get into her dream job.

“Because of the subjects I chose at A level I didn’t have the right qualifications to do mechanics at University for example, so I thought, why not get straight into an apprenticeship and straight into the work place instead”, she says.

Abbie is now on an apprenticeship with Porsche Leicester while studying for a Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship.

“Because you are getting real work experience, there is a bigger chance to get into employment and it is more hands on.

“It’s like an alternative to academic learning. You get teaching from people that do the job themselves, so first-hand experience and then there is the added bonus of earning money on top of that.”

Abbie is completing her apprenticeship training with support from Remit Group and attends block release at the Automotive Academy in Derby.
